How can I increase the humidity in my new Humidor?
I just got it two days ago and it still sits at 60%. I've added a sponge, a bowl full of Propylene Glycol; I've damped the inside walls; I have a humidifier in there filled with Propylene Glycol. . . what else can I do? I'm afraid my box of cigars are going to be ruined!
Sounds like you have done about everything. You may try re-seasoning your humidor. Then take a sponge with warm distilled water and place in a bowl so that it doesn't touch the wood. Leave in closed humidor overnight.
You have probably already seasoned it so there are a few things to consider:
1.Where do you live? If you live in a cold weather area, this time of the year is hard on humidors. The indoor heater will draw moisture from the walls of the humidor. Just make sure to keep lid closed and only open to retrieve a smoke.
2.Is your hygrometer thru mount on internal. If you have to open the lid to see the the hygrometer, you are letting unnecessary dry air into the humidor, especially if you are using a indoor heater. This will alter the reading as well as adding difficulty to the humidor.
3.Humidor quality. Does your humidor seal effectively? Do you have a good hinge system? Are you using a good, high quality cedar humidor? Take a look a the ones on Cigar Tycoon USA site and compare to yours. They have really high quality humidors. I buy some for my store.

4.Analog hygrometers are never 100% accurate. They are always off just a little. You can calibrate but you will probably always be a few % off.
