How to repair slight water damage on oak table?
I just bought an oak dining table in good condition, but in the center it looks like slight water damage, the area is rougher and some of the stain is lighter than the rest of the table. I was thinking about light sanding with 0000 steel wool then applying some tung or linseed oil. Will this work, or should I do something else?
What you are suggesting won't make it any worse. If the table is dark, you may want to try Old English furniture polish. It comes in a couple of colors and you can get it at Home Depot. It works great on scratches, too.
