Best hookah setup? Tinfoil + charcoal?
I was wondering what the best way to enjoy a hookah would be. I cleaned mine recently and got some fresh tobacco (haven't used it in a while) and i didn't know what is best. I have a metal (i think stainless steel) bowl because it was a cheap replacement for the clay or stone one that broke. Is that a bad replacement? Also i use tinfoil with holes poked in it and a self sustaining (trois mages) coal that rests on top. Is that the best way to go about smoking the ol' hookah? i noticed the longer i smoked it, the harsher the smoke seemed. Is that normal? Thanks guys.

anyhow, a metal replacement bowl is actually a pretty bad to use. A metal bowl is going to get SUPER hot and scorch the shisha badly. I know it's just a tad more expensive, but i suggest investing in an awesome bowl, like the Vortex.

Since the holes are on the side, the juices stay in your bowl -- instead of running down your stem.
Also, a phunnel is another option.

Honestly, i love my vortex.
Tin foil and holes are perfect. You can even double up the foil if you want. i do it.
As for coals, probably the best ones you can use are :
-Exotica
-Coco Nara
-Chronic Hookah
Also, natural coals are ALWAYS, HANDS DOWN better than quicklites.
And yes, the longer you smoke your shisha, the more cooked it's going to get. But, it shouldn't be harsh. Try putting the coals on the outside of your bowl and as the coals get smaller, work them closer to the middle. Make sure the downstem is submerged half and inch to an inch under the water.
Anyhow, once you get yourself a better bowl you'll see a substantial difference. i mean, you've had a clay one before anyhow.. so i'm sure you know. but uh... try not to get it to burn. i've had lots and lots of sessions where it lasts the entire time and it doesn't burn a bit. Just do some guess and checking with your heat management and you'll find something that works perfect for you.
Also, make sure you're not packing down the shisha. Fluff, dont stuff. If you have a regular ceramic bowl (holes at the bottom) then the shisha will burn badly and there will be bad air flow.
